Description
The Cobweb is a public house located in Forrabury and the Harbour, Boscastle. Originally built as a store in the 18th century, it was converted into a public house in 1945. The building is constructed from slate stone rubble with brick dressings and features a cement washed slate roof that has a hipped end at the front and a gable end at the rear. There is a central rendered brick chimney stack on the ridge.
The Cobweb has an almost square plan and originally had loading doors on the right-hand side. After its conversion, the interior was partitioned to create two large bars on the ground floor. The building stands three storeys tall with an attic. The front elevation facing the road has 20th-century windows in partly blocked openings on the ground floor, 19th-century sash windows on the first floor, and 20th-century casements on the second floor. There are blocked openings above. The right-hand side elevation features steps leading up to the entrance on the first floor, with a mix of 19th and 20th-century windows and loading doors, along with remnants of a teagle hoist on the top floor. The left-hand side elevation also displays 19th and 20th-century windows.
Inside, there is a figurehead from 'The Welm', a ship that was wrecked on Black Rock in 1890. The building also served as the warehouse and office for William Sloggatt, who is referenced in the listing for Penally Home.
