Description

Number 38 is a mid-19th century house with an attached greenhouse. It is constructed of limestone ashlar with gable-end stacks and a slate roof. The house has two storeys and a basement, with a three-window front. Notable features include pronounced quoins, deep eaves with fretted bargeboards, and two-storey recessed areas containing four-centred arches linked by impost bands. These arches frame French windows on the ground floor and sash windows above. A full-width wrought-iron verandah with batswing braces and conical tented blinds over the first-floor windows is present. The decorative stacks are round and octagonal, and a flight of Pennant stone steps leads to a porch with a Tudor-arched door. Inside, a curved dogleg staircase rises from the right-hand hall. The attached greenhouse has a brick rear wall and a five-sided glazed front, featuring Tudor-arched windows and gabled mullions.
