Description
Glenside Hospital, formerly the isolation block, is a hospital building that served as an isolation unit from 1898 to 1980. It was designed by H Crisp and GH Oatley. The structure is built from pennant rubble with limestone dressings and features ridge stacks and a Welsh slate roof. It has a single-depth plan consisting of linked blocks and is a single storey with a 12-window range. The front of the building is symmetrical, showcasing rusticated quoin strips, a plinth, and keyed segmental-arched windows with ovolo mouldings. There is a central gabled porch with a narrow door flanked by narrow stained-glass lights. A two-bay verandah supported by cast-iron stanchions features decorative spandrel links to hemi-octagonal bays, which have paired sash windows and top-hung casements, along with finials on the roofs. The outer three windows are set back. The building has ashlar stacks with wide, coved cornices at the end gables and ridges. At the rear, two rusticated piers lead to a tiled courtyard that includes a covered walkway similar to the front verandahs. The interior has been remodelled in the 20th century.
