Description

25 and 27 St Stephen's Street is a warehouse building, now used as a shop and offices, dating from around 1840, with a later attic added. The exterior is rendered, and the roof is not visible. It has a double-depth plan and stands four storeys tall with a double attic, featuring a symmetrical front with a plate-glass shop front and a doorway on the right. The building has a full-width cornice and full-height pilaster strips with cornices between the floors. There are pilasters supporting three full-width tripartite windows, with 12/12-pane sashes on the first floor, 8/12-pane sashes on the second floor, and 8/8-pane horned sashes on the third floor. The rear elevation is similar to the front. The interior has been modified for 20th-century shops and offices. This building represents an advanced warehouse design with very large glazing and no voids between the windows.
