Description

No. 30 Clare Street is an office building constructed around 1920, featuring a design in the Edwardian Baroque style. It is built from limestone ashlar with rendered sides, has a lateral stack, and is topped with a slate mansard roof. The building has a single-depth plan and consists of two storeys, an attic, and a basement, with a symmetrical front that includes a two-window range.

The façade is characterized by pilasters at the corners and center, a plinth, and a banded section below a modillion cornice. The attic storey features pilasters with a cornice that projects forward, and there is a capped parapet above. The openings are set within two-storey keyed semicircular arches with coved surrounds. The ground floor has an architrave and cornice, a left-hand doorway with double half-glazed bronze doors, and a right-hand window. The first-floor windows are semicircular-arched with raised aprons, while the attic windows have architraves with console cornices. The pilasters are adorned with cartouches below the cornice and wreaths with ribbons in the attic. Double casement dormers and a right-hand stack are also present.

The returns of the building have eight-window ranges, with windows flanked by Corinthian pilasters and architraves leading to cornices. The ground floor on the right side is rusticated, while the left side is banded. The interior has been largely remodelled in the late 20th century. This building is included for its group value with other nearby structures.
