Description
The turret and boundary wall date from approximately 1459 to 1469 and were constructed for the Dean and Canons of Westbury Church. The structure is built from red sandstone rubble with limestone ashlar detailing. A round corner turret features a cornice to a conical ashlar roof, which curves upward to a finial. A blocked lancet window faces the river, while the opposite side has a chamfered lancet window and a 19th-century door within a brick arch. A rubble wall extends approximately 30 metres to the west. The turret originally formed the northwest corner of the quadrangular layout of Westbury College, and the wall served as its northern boundary. This is a significant example of a medieval precinct wall with a turret. The wall to the east has since been incorporated into a residential development and is not included within the listing. The interior of the turret has not been inspected.
