Description

Numbers 40-46, Kingsdown Parade form a terrace of four houses, built around 1770. The houses are constructed of stucco and render, with a brick party wall and a pantile roof. They follow a single-depth plan, with two storeys and a basement. Numbers 40 and 42 are each one window wide, while numbers 44 and 46 are two windows wide. The terrace features a moulded parapet coping, with coped party walls, and external doorways each with thin brackets supporting pitched canopies. Number 42 has a 20th-century projecting porch, with a three-light rectangular overlight and a six-panel door. The windows are mostly hornless sashes, with margin bars, six-pane glazing, and plate glass, set in flush frames. There is a hipped dormer with casements. Inside number 40, a staircase leads from the front entrance to the basement and from the rear entrance to the upper floors. Notable interior features include turned balusters, panelled wainscotting, cupboards, shutters, and two-panel doors. The attached front area railings are made of cast iron and have pineapple finials.
