Description
This is a terrace of three shops with living accommodation above, located at 16, 18, and 20 Princess Victoria Street, and extending to 25, 26, and 27 Waterloo Street. The building dates from the 1860s and is constructed of limestone ashlar, with the roof being largely obscured. It follows a double-depth plan and is designed in a late Georgian style.
The terrace is three storeys high and has a two-window front. The upper floors feature pilasters extending to a cornice and parapet, with 6/6-pane sash windows. The shop fronts at street level have been remodelled in the 20th century. The west-facing return wall to Waterloo Street has an asymmetrical arrangement of four-pane sash windows, also with 20th-century shop fronts, and a central doorway. Number 25 Waterloo Street, on the left, is constructed of brick.
The interior has undergone significant alteration, but the original staircase remains, notable for its ornate cast-iron newel.
