Boarding house. 1862. By Charles Hansom. Brandon Hill Grit with limestone dressings, ridge stacks and a cross gabled slate roof. Collegiate Tudor Gothic Revival style. Single-depth plan round 2 internal courtyards. 2 storeys and attic; 12-window range. Asymmetrical elevations; that facing SE has a central projecting gabled wing with a large 2-storey canted 4-light bay with weathered roof, separated by a panelled band, with a 3-light mullion and transom window above; large cross-gabled eaves dormers to each side. To the right, 5 paired windows under a continuous drip, with triple windows at each end, and a left-hand door; 4 eaves dormers with barge-boards, with 2 smaller louvred dormers above. To the left are 2 large paired windows, a right-hand doorway with a 3-light overlight, and 2 dormers. Projecting gabled wing has a 2-storey canted 3-light bay with paired attic windows. Paired left-hand window. The left return has 2 gabled ends to parallel ranges with a small gable in between with external stacks. Rear elevation to Guthrie Road has an irregular 10-window range, with a left-hand gable and oriel, central exterior stack, 3 gabled dormer and mullion windows. The right return is symmetrical with outer gables and central rendered section. INTERIOR not inspected.
