Description

No. 1 Tyndalls Park Road is a house, now used as offices, built around 1861, possibly designed by Charles Hansom. The building is constructed of squared Brandon Hill grit rubble with limestone dressings, featuring tall lateral stacks and a slate cross-gabled roof. It has a double-depth plan and is designed in the Gothic Revival style. The structure has two storeys, an attic, and a basement, with a three-window range.

The front of the building is nearly symmetrical, showcasing two steep gables, with the left gable projecting. It includes quoins, kneelers, and a moulded coping. A moulded label at the ground floor and a first-floor sill band wrap around the building. The central doorway is framed by a steep gabled porch supported on foliate corbels, featuring a patterned tympanum and finial, a two-centred arch, and a doorway with a moulded lintel. Above the doorway is a trefoil window, and the entrance has a double 20th-century door.

The ground-floor windows have pointed heads with trefoil panels between them, including a three-light window to the left and a four-light bay with a weathered head to the right, both featuring trefoil-headed sashes. On the first floor, the windows have shouldered heads, with a three-light window to the left that has a label and impost band, and a three-light right-hand window set in a two-centred ashlar arch with a quatrefoil panel. The left-hand attic window is a two-light design with trefoil heads, and there are quatrefoil openings above the doorway and in the right-hand gable, along with a central 20th-century dormer. The right-hand return features three ridged dormers, while the left-hand return has a steep rear gable similar to the front. The interior has not been inspected.
