Description

The Golden Guinea Public House is a pair of attached houses dating from the early 18th century, with one currently serving as a public house. The building is constructed of brick with limestone dressings, featuring a brick party wall stack and pantile roofs that are hipped to the front. It has a double-depth plan and consists of three storeys, a basement, and an attic. No. 18 has a two-window range, while No. 19 has a three-window range.

Architectural details include rusticated pilasters, moulded strings at each floor, and moulded parapet coping. The entrance to No. 18 features a 19th-century left-hand doorway with a fluted semicircular arch, a small cornice, a batswing six-pane fanlight, and a six-panel door. It also has rusticated lintels above six-over-six pane sashes in exposed frames. No. 19 has a 19th-century public house front with a central doorway and plate-glass windows.

Inside No. 18, there is an entrance hall leading to a central open-well staircase with an uncut string, column-on-vase balusters, column newels with pyramidal pendents, and a toadback rail. The front room is fully panelled and features an early 18th-century eared timber fireplace with rocaille decoration and a marble surround. The upper rooms contain two-panel cupboards with H hinges beside the fireplaces, and the basement includes a copper and steps leading to the pavement. No. 19 has a 20th-century public house interior.
