Description
No. 5 Christmas Steps is an attached house that has been converted into a shop and residence, dating from around 1800. The building is constructed of brick with limestone dressings and features a pantile roof. It has a double-depth plan and is designed in the late Georgian style, standing three storeys tall with a basement and a single-window range. The ground floor has a 20th-century shop front that includes a central doorway and four-pane windows. Above, there are cambered brick heads over the first-floor sashes, which are 8/8-pane, and second-floor sashes, which are 4/4-pane. Inside, there is a right-hand ground-floor stair with an uncut string and winders at both the top and bottom. An internal six-pane window is located at the top of the stair, and there is also a left-hand first-floor stair.
