Description

No. 3, Christmas Steps is a house, dating to around 1800, which is now used as a restaurant and office. The building is constructed of brick with lime pointing and limestone dressings, and has a pantile roof. It follows a double-depth plan and is built in a Late Georgian style. The house is three storeys high, plus a basement, and originally had a three-window front. A 20th-century shop front now occupies the ground floor, with plate-glass windows, a fascia, and a doorway leading to an office above. The first floor has eight-pane sash windows with cambered ashlar voussoirs, and a central former hoist door with glazing. The second floor has three six-pane sashes, the central one being blind. A 19th-century plank door provides access to the basement, which contains a rough timber post supporting a central beam, and a 20th-century staircase.
