Description
A pair of attached houses, now flats, were built around 1860, likely designed by George Gay. The houses are constructed of limestone ashlar with lateral and party wall stacks. They have a double-depth plan and are built in a Classical style.
Each house is two storeys high, with a basement and attic, and has a two-window front. The front is symmetrical, with projecting ends. The ground floor is banded, extending to an entablature. The first floor has paired pilasters rising to a dentil cornice. The attic has a moulded parapet and small pediments above the pilasters. Entrances are located in the returns.
The windows have elliptical arched heads, bracketed cornices, and plate-glass sashes. The wings feature three-light bow windows on the ground floor, with first-floor balustrades above. There are three-light windows above, single windows in between, and smaller attic windows with shouldered architraves. The entrances in the returns feature rusticated jambs to a semicircular arch with a three-pane fanlight, and two-leaf, two-panel doors.
The interior has not been inspected, but it is reported to be similar in detail to numbers 21-25 Tyndall’s Park Road. The property includes the building at number 6, Woodland Road.
