Description

The drinking fountain and horse trough, located at the junction with Summerhill Road, was built in 1890 and erected by William Butler. It is made of Portland ashlar with polished red granite plaques and a grey granite trough, set on a square base. Each side features pointed arches with a chamfered plinth, cable mould reveals, and linked hoodmoulds adorned with floral archivolts. The structure has a domed roof topped with a round finial and a plain door at the back. There are bronze lion-head fountains and iron basins on each side, surrounded by red granite, along with a red granite plaque on the front that honors William Butler for presenting the fountain to the people of St George. In front of the fountain, there is a horse trough protected by two bollards, and the entire fountain is set on a low Pennant plinth.
