Description

The Church Hall of the Church of St Ambrose is a building constructed in 1907 and around 1912 by architects WV and AR Gough. It features snecked red Pennant stone with limestone dressings and has a tiled roof. The hall consists of three linked units and is designed as an open plan, single-storey structure with a three-window range.

The main hall has a large north-facing window that looks out onto the road, which is designed with a four-centred arch and Perpendicular tracery. This window is flanked by clasping rubble pilasters that have ashlar panels at the top. Above the window, there is striped rubble and ashlar, with moulded gable coping that is scrolled at the bottom and topped with a cross.

On the left side of the building, there is a segmental-arched doorway with a shield and the monogram of St Ambrose above it. To the left of the main hall is a smaller side block that features a door beneath an Arts and Crafts parapet adorned with ball finials, along with a dormer window that has a plain three-light casement. At the rear, there is a second hall dated 1907, which is now attached to the main structure. This rear hall includes an ashlar porch with scrolled, stepped gables, a chamfered stepped window behind, and raised kneelers with an apex stone at the gable. The interior has not been inspected.
