Description
No. 1 Tailor's Court is an attached house dating from around 1670, with alterations made in the 18th century. It features a rendered timber frame, a brick lateral stack on the right, and a pantile half-hipped roof. The house has three storeys, an attic, and a basement, with a layout of single front and rear rooms and a stair located to the left, accompanied by a light well at the back.
The front of the house has a truncated gable with a jettied first floor, a moulded string course at the first and second floors, a cornice, and boxed eaves. The left-hand door includes a four-pane overlight, an architrave, and a 20th-century six-panel door. The ground floor features paired windows with 2/2-pane horned sashes that have horizontal bars, while the upper windows are in flush frames with 4/4-pane sashes, and there is an attic casement. The left-hand return has a single window with 4/4-pane sashes in flush frames.
Inside, there is raised panelling around the ground-floor front windows, a cantilevered beam projecting from the rear with a moulded end, a dogleg winder stair, and a small attic cupboard with butterfly hinges. The layout of this house is similar to other late 17th-century townhouses in Bristol, such as the Llandoger Trow on King Street.
