Description
No. 44 Broad Street is an attached house that has been converted into a shop. It dates from the early 19th century and features a rendered exterior with limestone dressings, although the roof is not visible. The building consists of single rooms at the front and rear, with a central light well on the right side and a staircase located at the back of this well.
The shop front is largely intact from the 19th century, featuring a door on the left for accessing the flat and another door on the right for the shop. There is a central plate-glass window flanked by panelled pilasters that support consoles and a fascia. Above this, pilasters rise to a cornice and parapet, with architraves and a cornice above the first-floor casements, which are paired with second-floor 6/6-pane sash windows.
Inside, the building has been extensively altered and re-roofed. There is an enclosed winder staircase above the first floor, along with a flight of stairs that has winder sections at both the top and bottom, leading to a central well.
