Description
49 and 50 Broad Street is an attached office building dating from around 1770, with a ground floor added around 1854, possibly by Foster and Wood. The ground floor is made of limestone ashlar with granite dressings, while the upper sections are brick with limestone dressings. The building features lateral stacks and a double Roman mansard roof. It has a double-depth plan, stands three storeys tall with an attic, and has a four-window range. The ground floor includes an arcade with three segmental arches that have moulded soffits and keys adorned with carved heads. It is supported by granite columns and responds with foliate capitals, leading to a cornice. Above this, there are pilasters that support a cornice and parapet. The windows are horned plate-glass sashes set in flush moulded frames, and there are two dormers. The interior has not been inspected.
