Description
The churchyard cross at the Church of St Peter was built in 1871, designed by G.E. Street and carved by T.W. Earp. It features an octagonal plinth with a pedestal that stands on three steps. The octagonal base has four sculptured panels depicting the Nativity, Crucifixion, Ascension, and the Martyrdom of St Peter, which alternate with lower foliage panels. The ribbed shaft sits on a moulded base and has a foliage capital that supports a boldly foliated cross with a central boss. This cross is part of a group that includes the Church of St Peter, a lychgate, the Chapel of the Resurrection, and two groups of gravestones.
