Description
This building on High Street is a former house dating from the early 16th century. It was altered, divided, and refaced in the mid-18th century, and now has two 20th-century shop fronts. The building is rendered with stone dressings, and the return wall on the right is of limestone rubble. The roof is tiled with plain clay tiles.
The building is two storeys with an attic, and has a four-window front. The 20th-century shop fronts have fascias with moulded brackets, originally designed for three lights each, with two doorways centrally and one to the northeast. The first-floor windows are sash windows with six-over-six panes, each with a keyed architrave. A deep 18th-century moulded cornice sits beneath a parapet. The rear elevation has a two-storey central wing with a hipped roof.
The ground floor contains an early 16th-century two-light window with a four-centred stone head, and a four-centred door with a rebate and iron hinges, found in the rear left-hand wall. A 16th-century roof with seven bays is present, featuring cambered tie beams and collars. A room on the first floor has an 18th-century plaster ceiling divided into squares by moulded ribs. Other original features include panelling, fireplaces, a staircase, and doors. The interior was not inspected in 2021.
