Description
Walton House and Salisbury House are a large classical villa built around 1850, constructed of buff brick and situated in its original woodland setting, accessed by a steep drive off a main street. The entrance front, facing west, features five windows and is two storeys high. It has a prominent stone porch supported by Tuscan columns and antae, which hold up an entablature and balustrade. A later addition, the subsidiary entrance for Salisbury House, includes stucco pilasters and an entablature. The eaves cornice is adorned with console brackets, and the hipped roof has triple chimneystacks connected by narrow arches. The garden front, facing south, is symmetrical and includes two canted bays leading to a long verandah supported by slim iron uprights, with a conservatory at the east end.
