Description

The Curzon Club Casino and Tatler Cinema and Vogue Bingo and Social Club is a four-storey stucco Baroque building located at 16 Albert Road, constructed in 1882. Originally built as the Theatre Royal, it was converted into a Town Hall in 1887 and then reverted back to a theatre in 1892. The ground floor has been remodelled for the Tatler Cinema and Vogue Bingo, while the three upper floors, which are now painted sea-green, feature four windows across. These floors are adorned with giant fluted Corinthian pilasters that support an entablature. The first-floor windows have triangular pediments on console brackets, while the second-floor windows are flat-headed and also supported by consoles at the sills. There is a small two-storey extension to the north, which includes a circular window and an egg-and-dart cornice. The rear elevation, facing Yelverton Road and housing the Curzon Club Casino, is three storeys high, constructed of red brick with stone dressings, and features five windows that have all been bricked up. The windows are designed with Gibbsian voussoirs that extend downwards as shoulders. The buildings at Nos 4 to 14 and No 16 form a group.
