Description
The Post Office and Savings Bank, built in 1896, features an ashlar facade in the Flemish Renaissance style and stands two storeys high with a mansard roof. The centre of the building is slightly recessed and consists of three windows. The doorway is framed by grey granite pilasters that support a scrolled pediment on console brackets, with the Royal Arms displayed beneath a smaller segmental pediment above. The first-floor windows are topped with triangular pediments, while the second floor has dormers with segmental pediments. The wings of the building feature tripartite windows, each with a triangular or segmental pediment over the central light. Large tripartite dormers are flanked by swagged wings with pilasters that support an entablature, which features a high central structure containing a sculptured crown beneath a semi-circular shell pediment. The roof is covered with slate, and the sides of the building are blank-walled brick.
