Description
Hengistbury House is a house dating to circa 1800. It has a painted brick facade and consists of a central portion with two recessed wings that are not quite uniform. The roof is slate, with a hipped section over the eastern five windows. The house is two and a half storeys high with seven windows in total, and two additional windows at a lower level on the western side. All windows are sash windows with glazing bars, except for the early 19th-century easement on the western ground floor. The front door is six-panelled, with the top two panels now glazed and is flanked by round arched windows. A porch with Tuscan columns and a flat hood with a cornice provides shelter. A flight of seven steps with an early 19th-century handrail leads to the front door. A round arched door with a radial fanlight is located on the west side. Inside, the hall contains a good Art Nouveau fireplace.
The house is part of a group with numbers 35 to 39 (odd), their associated listed walls, gate piers, and railings, and with number 34 opposite.
