Description
The Bridge Furnishing Factory, built in 1890, was originally a chapel. It features a slate roof and an ornate facade that has been painted white. The building is two storeys high and three bays wide, with the ground floor constructed of rusticated brickwork. The central entrance is topped with a broken pediment that has egg and dart moulding. There is elaborate bas relief carved brickwork or tiles in the spandrels of the round arched door. Flanking the entrance are round arched windows with keystones, which now contain modern casements. The first floor has a round arched recess at the center, also with a keystone, and a two-light, round arched window. The facade is further enhanced with decorated tiles, and there is a cornice and pediment above. Pilasters separate the center and outer bays, terminating in finials. The building has six side windows. The Bridge Furnishing Factory, along with Nos 6 (eastern part only) to 16 (even), forms a group with Nos 9 to 13 (odd) opposite, with No 6 (eastern part only) and Nos 10 to 16 (even) being of local interest.
