Description

This early 19th-century building, known as The Staithe, is constructed of painted brick with wide eaves and a hipped slate roof. The rear facade faces the main road. The main part of the building is two storeys high with five windows. The centre window on the first floor is round-arched, and all the windows are sash windows with segmental arches and glazing bars. To the east is a three-storey section with one window and ground floor additions. Further east there is a cottage and garage section of two storeys, with two windows and a gabled front facing the main road. A verandah runs along the ground floor on the south side, which offers a view of the sea and a lane. The Staithe forms a group of buildings of group value with Seabrook Cottage, Bridge House, Sunnyholme, and adjoining cottage, Mudeford Lodge and its outbuilding, The Moorings, and Mount Pleasant and its boundary wall, along with a pillar box. The Coach House opposite also contributes to the group, though Mudeford Lodge, The Moorings, the Pillar Box and The Staithe are the primary contributors to its group value.
