Description
The Anchorage is a large house built in the late 19th century to early 20th century. It features red brick construction with a tile-hung upper storey and a tiled roof that includes a Belvedere topped with leaded casements and a weathervane. The house has an irregular plan and stands two storeys high with dormers. The main facade displays three windows, which are typically three and four light leaded casements with mullions and a transom. There is one angular bay window with four lights. The entrance door is adorned with a low pediment above a flat canopy supported by elaborate, fretted brackets. A stuccoed section on the northeastern side includes a two-storey tower with a tiled, pyramidal roof, positioned at the angle between this section and a one-storey portion along the road, which features three gabled dormers. The Anchorage, along with its boundary wall, forms a group with Scott's Cottage, its boundary wall, and Gundimore, while a modern house set back in trees does not visually intrude on the setting.
