Description

A row of eight terraced houses, numbered 1-8 Larkhall Place, built around 1794, with alterations made in the late 19th century. The houses are stepped slightly uphill from number 4. They are constructed of limestone ashlar, some of which is painted, and have double-pitched slate and pantile roofs with decorative stacks on the left party walls. Each house has a double-depth plan and a single-storey rear wing.

The houses are three storeys high with basements, each featuring a single window on the front elevation. They have coped cornices and parapets; those of numbers 1-4 are continuous. Originally, each house had six-over-six-pane tripartite sash windows. Those on the first floor have floating cornices, and paired six-over-six-pane sashes are located to the left of the six-panel doors, which are sheltered by stone hoods supported on brackets. Number 4 has been altered. Deeds relating to number 7 are said to date from 1792, with construction finishing twenty-five years later. Number 2 was sold on 8th May 1794 due to bankruptcy. The interiors have not been inspected.
