Description

This is a mid-19th century terrace of three shops with living accommodation above, located in Larkhall. The buildings are constructed of limestone ashlar, painted, with Welsh slate roofs. The plan is of single-depth houses, each with a rear wing; No. 1’s wing is kinked to align with St Saviour's Road. The front elevation is two storeys high, with eight windows across the terrace, arranged as three:two:three. The ground floors have modern shop windows and doors, with a prominent arched doorway to No. 3. First floor windows are plain sashes, except at No. 2, where two sashes with two panes each are set lower than the others. Two iron balconettes are present at No. 1. A continuous cornice tops the buildings, followed by a parapet. The rear roofline is marked by four ridge stacks, although those at Nos. 1 and 3 are incomplete. The rear elevation is not visible. The interiors have not been inspected. The terrace is notable as a modest but intact example of artisanal housing with retail provision, and included on the list for its group value.
