Description

This is a row of four small houses, built in the early to mid-19th century and altered in the 20th century. The houses are constructed of limestone ashlar and have pantile or double Roman tile roofs. They stand at a right angle to Byfield Buildings and are lower in height, backing onto a stepped section of a former quarry wall.

The houses are two storeys high. Nos. 1 and 2 each have one twelve-pane sash window and two plain sashes above a twelve-pane sash window, and a plain sash window respectively. They have wide plank doors to the far left and right. The ground floor window and doorhead of No. 2 is at a lower level than that of No. 1. No. 4 has two four-pane sashes above a 20th-century lean-to porch with a door, and a four-pane sash window. A square ridge stack, shared with No. 5, rises above, also using double Roman tile. Replacement windows and a porch with solid cheeks and a slab hood are present. The gables and party walls are coped. The interior of the houses has not been inspected. The properties are included in the listing for their group value.
