Description
St Chad's Well, located about 40 yards south-west of The Island House, is a tall obelisk made of grey stone, dating from around 1866. It features two marble plaques, two flags, and a wreath. The structure stands on a high battered plinth, beneath which there is a grotto opening for a spring, accessible by a path and steps from the east. This well was erected by the mother of Frederick Stukeley Savage, who died in 1866, for the benefit of the poor. It was formerly situated in the grounds of Norton House, which has since been demolished.
