Description
15 The Island is a former house, now used as offices, dating from the late 18th century or early 19th century. The building is constructed of ashlar stone and features a slate roof.
It is designed in an L-shape and has two storeys plus a basement. The front of the building has a three-window range with an extension at the back. The windows on both the ground and first floors are eight-over-eight sash windows. On the right side, there is a segmental-headed basement window with a central mullion.
The central doorway is round-headed and set in a shallow recess, featuring a rusticated surround and a keystone. It has a panelled door topped with an arched fanlight. The front elevation includes a plinth, rusticated quoins, a moulded string course at the first-floor cill level, a moulded cornice, and a plain parapet. The building is topped with square ashlar chimney stacks that have moulded caps. To the right of the main elevation, there are two rusticated gate piers.
At the rear, there is a large window and a chamfered mullion two-light window to the left. The interior has not been inspected. This building was formerly known as Doone Cottage.
