Description
No. 12 Upper Lansdown Mews is an early 19th-century coach house and garden house, now used as a dwelling. It was altered in the 20th century. The building is constructed of fine and rough limestone ashlar with a slate roof and gable-end stacks. The plan is L-shaped, with a projecting former coach house on the right side.
The street front has two storeys and a four-window arrangement. It features late 19th-century sash windows with two panes per sash, horns, and wire balconettes to the first floor. A 20th-century door with an overlight is set back on the ground floor to the right. The garden front has a coped parapet and a stopped cornice to both the first and ground floors. Late 19th-century sash windows with horns and two panes per sash are present, with two windows to the left of centre and one to the right of centre on the first floor. A 20th-century central door and French windows are on the right side of the ground floor. The interior has not been inspected. This building is an example of the more substantial mews buildings that were built alongside major developments like Lansdown Crescent, which was designed by John Palmer and constructed in 1792.
