Description

A pair of houses dating from around 1820. They are constructed from limestone ashlar with an unseen roof and stacks to the party wall and returns. The houses have double-depth plans and present a nearly symmetrical seven-window facade, with three windows per house and blind windows to the party wall. A continuous coped parapet, cornice, ground floor platband, and plinth are present, with the central three ranges stepping slightly forward. Number 14, on the left, has six/six-pane sash windows with balconettes flanking a narrow blind window above a recessed six-panel door with margin panes to a two-pane overlight. A wide segmental arch leads to the basement. Number 15 has six/six-pane sash windows with balconettes to the left range, four/four-pane sashes above the door and to the right, and a six/six-pane sash to the right of the door. The wide semi-elliptical doorway features a keystone that integrates into the platband, a richly decorated fanlight—likely cast iron—and margin lights to a six-panel door. The interior has not been inspected. These houses are part of a distinctive Regency suburban development, influenced by Greek Revival architecture and characteristic of Bath’s domestic buildings.
