Description
No. 5 Avenue Place is a house from the mid-19th century located in Combe Down. It is constructed of limestone ashlar with a rubble end elevation and features a double Roman tile roof. The building has a single cell and single depth plan, with the entrance positioned to the right. The exterior includes a modern four-panel door with a rectangular light above it, and the windows are four-light 19th-century sashes. There is a stone verge and a shared stone stack at the left end of the roof ridge. The rear elevation has not been seen. The interior has not been inspected. Avenue Place is notable as one of the earliest developments in Combe Down, dating back to the mid-18th century, as it is depicted in a drawing from 1759. This small workman's cottage remains in an externally unaltered condition and was built as an extension of an existing terrace.
