AVENUE PLACE, Combe Down No. 5 (Formerly Listed as: THE AVENUE, Combe Down (East side) Nos. 3-5 (consec) Avenue Place) 05/08/75

GV II

House. Mid C19. MATERIALS: Limestone ashlar, end elevation rubble, with double Roman tile roof. PLAN: Single cell, single depth plan with entrance to right. EXTERIOR: Modern four-panel door with rectangular light over. Windows are four-light C19 sashes. Stone verge and shared stone stack at left end of roof ridge. Rear elevation not seen. INTERIOR: Not inspected. HISTORY: Avenue Place was one of the earliest developments in Combe Down, dating from the mid-C18 (it is shown on a drawing of 1759). This small workman's cottage in an externally unaltered condition and was built on as an extension of an existing terrace. SOURCES: Peter Addison, Around Combe Down (1998), 65.
