Description

This is a terrace house dating to circa 1770. It is constructed of limestone ashlar, with rubble to the rear, and has a slate roof. The property abuts the north end of Norfolk Crescent and may have originally been two separate houses, with a bridge across the area to the right. The house is three storeys and has an attic, with a basement, and rises to four storeys at the rear due to the sloping site. It has three windows wide. The attic features a central twelve-pane dormer flanked by paired twelve-pane sash dormers. The windows on the upper floors are primarily twelve-pane sashes, with a small four-pane window to the second floor, a small six-pane to the first floor, and a tall, narrow twelve-pane window to the ground floor to the right of the door. A large tripartite sash window is located at basement level to the left, and a louvered opening to the right. The central entrance has a six-panel door in a reeded architrave, topped with a dentil-moulded flat hood supported on tall scroll consoles. The exterior includes a plinth, a first-floor platband, a moulded cornice, a blocking course, and a parapet with coped party walls to the mansard roof. Deep ashlar stacks are present. A straight joint marks the boundary with the adjacent No. 18. The rear elevation has dormers and a variety of sashes, including a very long thirty-six-pane stair window spanning four storeys, with stacks at each end. The interior has not been inspected. Across the front, simple spearhead railings on a rounded top are set on a curb and return at the ends and to the doorway.
