Description

Berkeley Place comprises a concave, curved terrace of twelve houses built in the mid-19th century, stepped uphill from number 7. The houses are constructed of limestone ashlar, painted to the ground floor. They have double-pitched slate and double Roman tile roofs, with moulded stacks to the party walls. The houses are double depth.

Each house has two front windows and two lower ground floor levels. Features include eaves cornices, ground floor platbands, and banded rustication to the ground floor. Each house has an enclosed, painted two-storey porch on the right side, featuring a bolection moulded, five-panel door with glazed upper panels. Single windows are situated above the doors, and semicircular arched windows are found in the ground floor returns. The windows are plate glass sashes. Number 1 has a double Roman tile roof. Number 2 has a slate roof and a late 19th-century cast iron boot scraper. Numbers 3 and 4 are similar to number 2. Number 5 has a double Roman tile roof. Number 6 has a slate roof and two-over-two pane sash windows. Number 7 has double Roman tiles, two-over-two pane sashes to the first floor, plate glass windows to the ground floor, and a painted facade. Number 8 is unpainted with a slate roof. Numbers 9 and 10 are similar. Numbers 11 and 12 have double Roman tile roofs. The interiors have not been inspected.
