Description

This is a terrace of four houses, originally known as Nos 1 to 4 Chapel Row, built in the late 19th century. The terrace is grouped as two pairs. The houses are constructed of ashlar stone with slate roofs. They are three storeys high, with a basement, and each house originally had one window and one door facing the street. However, a shared blocked window on the upper floors gives the impression of two paired houses. The windows are sash windows with glazing bars, and feature cill bands that are ramped where the pairs meet. The front door, originally paired, is now modern at No. 26, while No. 26 retains its original flat stone hood supported by brackets. In front of each house are low (2 to 3 feet) ashlar garden walls topped with gate piers, and the front walls along the road are connected to the houses by ashlar dividing walls, approximately 4 to 5 feet high.
