Description
Manor House is an early to mid-17th century manor house that was remodelled in the 18th century, with further additions and restorations in the mid-to-late 19th century. It is constructed of rubble with freestone dressings, and has a twin-span slate roof behind a coped parapet and a moulded cornice. The house is of three storeys and three bays, featuring thick glazing bar sash windows set in raised stone surrounds. The central first-floor window has a round head. A projecting two-storey ashlar porch was added in the 19th century. The north gable end retains two-light casement windows with ovolo moulded mullions and surrounds, set under dripmoulds. The rear garden elevation has three windows, the outer ones being in two-storey canted bays with cross windows of 1-4-1 lights, featuring ovolo moulded mullions and surrounds. A central doorway is set within a doorcase with a segmental pediment on plain pilasters. Inside, the central passage has a freestone doorway with a four-centred head and an ovolo moulded surround at its west end. The ground-floor north room is panelled and contains a four-centre headed fireplace with an ogee-ovolo moulded surround, an enriched arabesque frieze, a dentilled cornice on carved consoles, and an enriched overmantel featuring three shell-headed niches with a carved frieze. The ceiling is a restored strapwork design with fleur-de-lys motifs, a central star pattern, and rosettes. A further fireplace of note is believed to exist on the first floor.
