Description
Cameley House is a rectory that has been converted into a house. It features a late 18th century addition to the original 17th century east wing. The building is constructed of coursed rubble with stone dressings and has slate roofs, designed in the Gothick style. It stands two storeys tall, with three bays in the Gothick section and two windows in the 17th century wing.
The entrance front showcases sharply upswept ogee-headed ovolo moulded openings with round-headed lights, leading to casements with geometrically patterned leading. There is a central three-sided canted bay that extends through both floors, topped with an embattled parapet. A projecting one-storey porch features a reset 16th century four-centred arch.
The west front includes a canted bay that spans two floors, with five ogee-headed, ovolo moulded single light windows, all with patterned leading. The north front also has two storeys and three bays, with windows matching those on the entrance front and a central bay that corresponds with the west front. The Gothick section has a hipped roof with two brick ridge stacks on stone bases and three dormers on the north front. There are 20th century extensions at the rear.
Inside, there is a late 18th century cantilever staircase with a mahogany rail, and the upper left-hand front room retains an original late 18th century coved cornice.
