Description

Countess of Huntingdon's Chapel is an early 19th-century chapel located on Trafalgar Road in Weston. It is constructed from coursed limestone rubble with freestone dressings and rusticated quoins, topped with slate roofs. The chapel has a rectangular plan and is a single storey with a gallery at the front and single storey lean-to wings that are set back. The exterior features a symmetrical three-window arrangement, with coped gables and tall obelisk pinnacles at the quoins and apexes.

At the front, above the bellcote, there is a recessed plain panel at the apex over a flattened pointed arch that frames a three-light leaded window. This window has imposts that extend as sills to similar two-light windows on each side. A three-vertical-panelled door, located under a similar arch, bears the inscription "COUNTESS OF HUNTINGDONS CHURCH." The side wings have similar unleaded two-light windows at the outer ends and two-panel doors positioned close to the main block.

The right wing of the chapel is now No. 5 Trafalgar Road. The chapel was enlarged in 1857 and its simple design reflects the low church, evangelical character of the foundation, which aimed to serve the under-provided area to the west of the city. The interior was not inspected.
