Description

Sussex Place Nos 1-7 is a row of seven terrace houses, now mostly used as shops, dating from the early 19th century. The buildings are constructed of limestone ashlar, with Nos 3-5 painted, and feature double Roman tile roofs on Nos 3 and 4, while the others have concrete tile roofs.

The houses have a narrow frontage and are double depth, with a central valley that returns to a gable end at an acute angle to Coburg Place. They rise three storeys with a basement, appearing as four storeys at the rear, each with one window. Most windows are plain sashes, but Nos 6 and 7 have twelve-pane sashes above sixteen-pane sashes. All houses have shopfronts, except No. 4, which has a single sash window on the ground floor. Each house has a door to the left, except for No. 7, which has its door on the right. There are pavement lights to the basements, with a grille at No. 5.

The full-width lintel features a frieze, and there is a moulded cornice, blocking course, and parapet. The ashlar stacks are paired at the party divisions and cropped at Nos 1/2 and 3/4. The double gabled return end is made of large dressed stone blocks, with a first-floor sash window above a six-panel door that has a three-pane transom light. The rear of the houses has various sashes, mainly plain, with some twelve-pane sashes and a door in the basement. No. 7 retains an original small extension. The range is topped with a coped parapet.

The interiors have not been inspected. A painted sign on the front and side of the endmost house reads "PRIOR PARK DAIRY."
