Description

Yew Tree Cottage is a house, probably dating from the 17th century. It is constructed of limestone rubble with rendered rear and end walls, and features a Bridgewater pantile roof with gabled ends. The gable end stacks have brick shafts and white clay louvred pots, with the left end stack being significantly larger.

The building has a two-room plan with a central entrance, and both rooms are heated from the gable end stacks, with the larger left end stack likely serving the kitchen. There appears to have been an adjoining building on the left end, which has since been demolished.

The exterior is two storeys high and has a symmetrical three-window front. It features 19th or 20th century three-light casements, with a two-light casement in the centre on the first floor. The central doorway has a plank door with cover-moulds and a single wooden canopy. The rear elevation includes two similar two-light casements on the first floor and a small window at the ground floor centre. The masonry at the left gable end wall has broken away around the stack, suggesting that the house may have been truncated at this end.

The interior has only been partly inspected. The left room contains a chamfered cross-beam with stops, and there is a winder staircase at the centre; the first floor has not been inspected.
