Description

LYNCOMBE HILL (East side) North and East boundary walls to Lyncombe Hill Burial Ground

GV II

Walls. Late C18. MATERIALS: Coursed squared limestone. EXTERIOR: High retaining walls up to 3.5m. in height, triangular copings. Striking landscape feature on Claverton Street. HISTORY: These walls formerly secured the Unitarian Burial Ground. According to Peach, this exquisitely beautiful spot, in the lovely glen of Lyncombe, was presented to his brethren by the late Mr Howse, as a burial ground, in the year 1819. Here is a convenient chapel, around which many interments have taken place'. The ground has been built over since. SOURCES: [REM Peach,Bath Old and New' (1891), 186].
