Description
The entrance gates and piers to Lyncombe Hill Burial Ground were built around 1819. They are made of limestone ashlar and wrought iron. The exterior features rusticated ashlar piers topped with pyramid caps. The double gates have a swept top, spear heads, and dog bars, also adorned with spear heads. Historically, these gates secured the Unitarian Burial Ground, which was described by Peach as "this exquisitely beautiful spot" presented by Mr. Howse for use as a burial ground in 1819. A chapel was conveniently located on the grounds, where many interments have occurred, although the area has since been built over.
