Description

Clandown Farmhouse is a building dating from the 1720s, consisting of two parts that were both re-roofed with slate featuring crested ridges in the mid-19th century. The right-hand part is slightly older. The farmhouse is two storeys high and constructed from limestone rubble. It has two windows with two-light square mullion edge-roll type. To the left, there is a ledged door with a mid-19th century bracketed porch. A datestone in the centre of the first floor reads "D M I M 1721".

The left-hand part of the farmhouse is taller and smaller, featuring two and a half storeys and a cellar. It is built from ashlar with coursed and dressed rubble in wide courses, and has a moulded plinth. There are chamfered strings over the ground and first floors, as well as above the attic windows. This section has two gables in the attic and a small central gable over an arched light. It has five windows on the first floor and four on the ground floor, all of the two-light square mullion edge-roll type, which are larger than those on the right-hand side. The central doorway has chamfered reveals and heavy brackets supporting the mid-19th century porch. There is also a mid-19th century lean-to on the left side. The gable ends have chimneys and three brackets at the eaves-verges of each gable, including a small central one. A datestone above the right-hand attic window, with a cornice, reads "D I M 1724". At the rear, there is a central gabled stair turret with windows that have chamfered hoods above. Inside, the staircase features shaped splat balusters and square newels.
