Description
No. 22 is a terrace house built between 1764 and 1770, with some alterations from the 19th century. It features a limestone ashlar façade, rubble at the rear, and a slate roof. The house is a generous town house with a double mansard roof and an entryway with a staircase on the left side.
The exterior consists of three storeys, an attic, and a basement, with two windows on each floor. All windows are plain sashes set in moulded architraves on the second floor, similar but with splays on the first floor, and a single window with a splay on the ground floor and basement. There is a six-panel door in an architrave with a pediment supported by pilasters with consoles to the left. A platband runs above the ground floor, and there is a modillion cornice with a blocking course and a parapet. The rear of the property extends beyond the adjacent buildings.
The interior, inspected in 1975, retains many original cornices and architraving. The front of the house features simple railings across the basement area on a stone curb, which return to the doorway. The external fabric of the building reflects the staggered construction history of the terrace, which has a consistent overall detail but variations in elevation, indicating it was built in small sections marked by straight joints.
