Description

West Brow is a detached villa dating from the mid-19th century. It is one of a group of four similar villas built to take advantage of the sloping site and offer extensive views to the south. The villa is constructed of limestone ashlar with a concrete tile roof. The main building is a compact, square two-storey structure with basements, featuring a low-pitched hipped roof. A smaller, two-storey service block is situated at the rear.

The south-facing entrance front has three windows, with UPVC replacement sash windows in moulded architraves. A central six-panel door is accessed via a flat-roofed porch supported by Roman Doric columns and featuring a panelled architrave, cornice and pierced balustrade with circular motifs; stone balustrades are present on the cheeks of the porch. The east and west elevations have three V-plan oriels at each level, supported by triple wood brackets; original margin-pane glazing is retained within the first-floor oriels. The building features a plain eaves band, deep bracketed eaves, and two external stacks on each side. The interior has not been inspected. The property is included on the heritage register for group value, despite a loss of original detail.
