Description

The Mount is a late 17th-century house that was remodelled around 1820-30. It is constructed of rubble with freestone dressings and quoins, and has a hipped slate roof concealed behind a blocking course. The house was altered in a plain Regency Gothic style. The north garden elevation has three bays, plus a projecting bay to the right. It features four 2- and 3-light casement windows with moulded surrounds and mullions, all under dripmoulds on the first floor. A tall, wide 3-light window is set within a wide 4-centred arch with panelled piers; the lights of this window also have 4-centred heads. A 4-light French window is located on the ground floor to the left. The west elevation is arranged with three, one, and one bays, featuring 3- and 2-light casement windows in ovolo moulded surrounds with mullions, and decorative panels above the first-floor windows. Two lateral, panelled stacks are positioned on the left, and a cast iron verandah sits between them. Inside, the drawing room has doorways and niches featuring clustered shafts and 4-centred arched surrounds.
